The building is a
5-storey, 100,000 square foot structure making it
twice the size as the World of Disney store. Your
adventure begins in an elevator, which at first
glance seems like any other, until the doors
close. The lights flicker and the right hand wall
of the elevator reveals the Genie from Aladdin
who welcomes you in a bizarre 3D introduction to
Disneyquest. You arrive on the third floor that
serves as an entrance to the four lands of THE
EXPLORE ZONE, THE SCORE ZONE, THE CREATE ZONE and
THE REPLAY ZONE.
Disneyquest is open from 10.30AM until midnight
every day. The price of admission is a flat rate
of $25.00, plus tax, for adults and $20.00 plus
tax for children. This gives you unlimited play
on the day the pass is purchased. A new ticket
has recently been introduced for guests who
arrive after 9.00PM. The late night ticket is the
same price as a normal ticket but allows you to
enter after 9.00PM until closing and also return
for another full day within 10 days of first
entry.
EXPLORE ZONE
ALADDIN'S MAGIC CARPET RIDE
You are divided into three groups of four people
and seated on what appears to be a weird
motorcycle with a steering wheel in front of you.
This allows you to go up, down and side to side.
After putting on your virtual reality helmet you
are ready for action, and can look up, down and
side to side to see your fellow team mates who
all appear as Abu the Monkey, each in a different
coloured vest. The aim is to explore through
Agrabah to find the Genie who is trapped in the
Cave of Wonders. The entire event lasts about
five minutes and is worth ANY length of wait to
experience.
TREASURE OF THE INCAS
To the right of Jungle Cruise is a bank of
monitors with steering wheels. If you look down
on the floor behind you, when you are standing at
the console, you will see the floor is made of
glass that houses a maze with small remote
control vehicles moving around it. There are
small cameras fitted inside the trucks and you
control them using the steering wheel and the
monitor. The idea is to maneuver around the maze
to try to find the Aztec treasure. When you find
the treasure you just drive up to it to collect
it. This attraction issues tickets that can be
redeemed for prizes.
VIRTUAL JUNGLE CRUISE
On the Virtual Jungle Cruise you climb into rafts
that are positioned in front of a large
projection screen. The raft actually sits on an
air mattress that moves with the motion of the
waves to give you the real feeling of being on a
rafting expedition. Each guest is handed a paddle
and as the ride begins the air mattress under
your raft inflates; simulating water movement and
you must use your paddles to control the raft.
For example, if the people on the right hand side
of the raft paddle your view on the screen will
go to the left and vice versa. Your mission is to
see how far down the river you can get before the
end. You begin in a virtual Magic Kingdom and as
you proceed you go back in time to the land of
the dinosaurs. You experience some pretty heavy
rapids, go over some waterfalls, through caves
and much more. The raft will respond to
everything you see on the screen, including
squirts of water where appropriate. This ride is
sounds cool.
HERCULES IN THE UNDERWORLD
You step inside a small room designed to hold
four people, that is surrounded by screens and
put on your 3D glasses in order to do battle with
Hades, god of the Underworld. Each person assumes
a role as either Hercules, Meg, Phil or Pegasus
and the objective is to control your character
with a joystick and to collect lightning bolts
that have been stolen by Hades who is trying to
destroy the world. At the end of the game you
need to take all the lightning bolts you have
collected and use them to destroy Hades. This
game has some of the best 3D action you will ever
see and is worth any wait to have a go.
CREATE ZONE
CYBERSPACE MOUNTAIN
On this attraction you step up to a console and
are guided through the process of creating your
own roller coaster by Bill Nye the Science Guy.
You have the option of inserting corkscrews,
loops, breaks in the track, speed up sections and
straights to design the ultimate roller coaster,
a bit like Roller Coaster Tycoon. You can take
the easy way out and use a pre-designed coaster
and once you have finished you get inside a pitch
and roll simulator and ride the roller coaster
that you just created, complete with every 360
degree turn and bank that you created.
ANIMATION ACADEMY
Up to 18 guests can take a mini course in
animation. Whilst seated at a computer desk you
are given instructions on how to draw like a
Disney animator. When you have finished you can
pick up a copy of your masterpiece, along with a
certificate of completion from the Guest Gallery.
SID'S CREATE A TOY
Here you use a joystick, at one of the ten
consoles, to navigate through the 64 different
doll parts strewn about Sid's room and pick up
the various pieces to create your own doll. When
you have finished you can purchase the toy kit to
make the doll that you created from the Guest
Gallery for $10.60, tax included.
MAGIC MIRROR
Here you sit in front of a mirror and have your
picture taken. From there you can use all sorts
of tools to distort your face, if it's not
already distorted. Again you can buy your picture
at the Guest Gallery for $5.30 for a 5x7 print.
STICKER SHOTS
You step into a small booth and select the
stickers that you want which all have a Disney
character on them, 36 in all. Your picture is
then taken and within a few minutes a sheet of
small stickers is dispensed with your picture as
part of the scene.
LIVING EASELS
Here you choose between 9 themes with 45
different backgrounds and place Disney characters
and animals throughout the artwork, very much
like Disney Paint Artist. Again you can buy the
picture that you created.
REPLAY ZONE
INTERGALACTIC TICKET TRADING POST
The tickets that you have won on games on
Disneyquest can be swapped here for prizes.
BUZZ LIGHTYEAR'S ASTRO BLASTER
This is a modern version of bumper cars where
instead of just bumping the other cars you
collect nerf-like balls by driving over them and
shoot them at the other cars. The cars are
supposed to seat two people but are a bit small
and you must be at least 51" tall to ride.
MIDWAY ON THE MOON
This is just a standard arcade where you can win
tickets that can be redeemed for prizes.
SCORE ZONE
MIGHTY DUCKS PINBALL SLAM
Up to twelve players stand on platforms that move
and control a pinball game that is shown on a
huge screen in front of them. You must be
51" tall to take part.
DAYTONA U.S.A.
A Sega driving game where up to eight players can
compete on a big screen.
RIDE THE COMIX
Here you immerse yourself in a comic book world
via virtual reality, where you use a light saber
to fight various villains. Not recommended if you
have a bad back.
INVASION! AN EXTRATERRORESTRIAL ENCOUNTER
On this ride three gunners and one pilot attempt
to rescue as many colonists as possible and
destroy as many aliens as they can in 3 1/2
minutes.
FOOD COURT
On the fourth floor you will find Wonderlands
Café where you can sample incredible deserts,
especially the cheesecake, and coffee. Several of
the tables around the café have computers that
allow Internet surfing. From here you can send
e-mail postcards or surf to your favourite
web-site.
On the fifth floor you can buy burgers, hot dogs,
sandwiches pizza and more.
