Serengeti Plain

About 500 animals run free on 500 acres that recreate their natural habitats. Among the species you'll see zebras, camels, impalas, giraffes, lions, gazelles, buffalo, eland, ostriches and cranes. The Trans-Veldt Railroad skirts the edge of the Serengeti, the Skyride and the Monorail enable you to see the whole plain from above, and a number of adjacent walkways also allow for viewing opportunities.

Skyride

Taking you 49-feet above the Serengeti and Timbuktu, the 1-mile one-way ride between Crown Colony and the Congo takes about seven minutes. The Skyride gives you a great overview but you do not see much detail, however it is a great shortcut between the two areas.

Monorail

The Monorail sets out from the Crown Colony Station and winds its way around the Serengeti Plain. The monorail in Busch Gardens is suspended from an overhead rail and trundles around the Veldt about three feet from the floor. A Tour Guide is on hand to tell you about each of the animals that you come across on this 20-minute journey.

Serengeti Safari Truck

For an additional fee of $20.00, you can ride the Serengeti Safari Truck tour around the Serengeti Plain. This 30-minute tour is the best way to get close to the animals for those important photo opportunities. Tickets are limited and are sold on a first come, first served basis, so should be bought from the Expedition Africa Gift Shop upon your arrival at the park. Minimum age requirement is 5 years.

Edge of Africa

On the Southern edge of the Serengeti Plain is a 15-acre walk-through exhibit area showcasing hippos, baboons, crocodiles, and various species of fish, via above underwater and above-water viewing areas. There is also an African Village, vacated by a Masai tribe that has been taken over by lions and hyenas, a Safari Encampment with giraffes, zebras, and habitats for meerkats and vultures. The wide open space in this attraction eliminates any crowded feeling so you can visit it at any point in the day.
